About FIAT Regata
The FIAT Regata was a compact family car introduced in 1983. Developed from the front-wheel-drive Ritmo platform, it used a more traditional four-door, three-box body. It effectively replaced the rear-wheel-drive 131 saloon and gave FIAT a conventional alternative to the brand’s hatchbacks. Italian production continued until 1990, when the Regata was succeeded by the Tempra.
The range included the Regata saloon and the five-door Regata Weekend estate, introduced in 1984. The Weekend was notable for its practical split tailgate, which incorporated a folding lower section to reduce the loading height. Depending on year and market, buyers could choose from several petrol and diesel engines, including later fuel-injected petrol and turbo-diesel variants. Versions such as the 70, 85 and 100 reflected different engine and equipment levels.
Known for its spacious cabin, useful luggage capacity and straightforward mechanical layout, the Regata was positioned as practical everyday transport for families and business users. Its angular styling and efficient packaging were typical of FIAT’s 1980s range. The model was also produced in Argentina from 1985 to 1995, where it was sold as the FIAT Regatta and remained available after European production ended.
