About FIAT Punto
The FIAT Punto is a B-segment small car introduced in 1993 as the successor to the Uno. It became a central part of FIAT’s European range, positioned above the smaller Panda and aimed at drivers seeking affordable, practical everyday transport. More than nine million examples were produced across three generations before production ended in 2018.
Most Punto models are three- or five-door hatchbacks, although the first generation also included a convertible. Compact exterior dimensions, good cabin space and straightforward controls made the car well suited to urban use while retaining enough practicality for general family duties. Depending on generation and market, the range included economical petrol and diesel engines, manual or automated transmissions, and trims extending from basic versions to better-equipped or sportier models.
The original Punto was followed by a second generation in 1999. A larger third generation arrived as the Grande Punto in 2005, followed by the restyled Punto Evo in 2009 and the simplified Punto name from 2012.
Known for accessible running costs, efficient packaging and distinctive Italian styling, the Punto was one of FIAT’s most important volume models. It won the 1995 European Car of the Year award and was a major competitor to other mainstream European superminis.
