About FIAT Marea
The FIAT Marea was introduced in 1996 as the brand’s family saloon and estate offering, replacing the Tempra. It was closely related to the Bravo and Brava hatchbacks but used a longer body to provide greater passenger and luggage space. The estate was marketed as the Marea Weekend and became especially notable for its practical load area and distinctive rear styling.
Designed mainly for the European compact and medium family-car classes, the Marea also served as one of FIAT’s more substantial passenger cars. Production began in Italy, while versions were later manufactured in Brazil and Turkey for local and regional markets. European sales ended in 2002, but production continued elsewhere until 2007.
The range varied considerably by year and country. Engine choices included four-cylinder petrol units, turbo diesels and later common-rail JTD diesels. Five-cylinder petrol and diesel engines gave higher-specification models a distinctive character, while Brazil also received performance-focused Turbo versions. A petrol and compressed-natural-gas BiPower model was offered in selected markets.
The Marea is known for its comfortable ride, roomy cabin and broad choice of engines and equipment. The Weekend added useful versatility, while regional facelifts and specifications created meaningful differences between otherwise similar cars.
