About FIAT Duna
The FIAT Duna was a compact family car developed from the South American FIAT Uno. Introduced in Brazil in 1985 as the Prêmio, it joined the Argentine range as the Duna in 1987. Production was centred in Brazil and Argentina, making it an important regional model rather than simply a European FIAT adapted for export.
The range mainly comprised two- and four-door saloons. Estate versions were marketed as the Duna Weekend or FIAT Elba, with three- and five-door configurations offered in different markets. Petrol and diesel engines were available, generally paired with manual transmissions. A small number of commercial derivatives broadened the model family.
Positioned as practical and affordable transport, the Duna was known for straightforward engineering, low running costs, useful interior space and suitability for demanding everyday use. These qualities made it popular with families, businesses and taxi operators. It became Argentina’s best-selling car from 1990 to 1995 and remained a familiar presence there into the early 2000s.
Within FIAT’s lineup, the Duna provided a saloon and estate alternative to the Uno hatchback. It was eventually succeeded by newer small-car families, principally the Siena saloon and Palio Weekend estate.
