About FIAT Daily
The FIAT Daily was a large light commercial vehicle introduced in 1978. It was developed within the newly formed IVECO organisation, which combined FIAT’s industrial-vehicle operations with several other European manufacturers. In some markets, the first-generation model retained FIAT branding until 1983, after which the Daily became identified primarily with IVECO.
Designed more like a compact truck than a car-based van, the Daily used a separate ladder-frame chassis, rear-wheel drive and independent front suspension. This construction supported demanding payloads while allowing a wide range of body conversions. The early line-up included panel vans and chassis-cab models in different weight, wheelbase and roof configurations. Flatbeds, box bodies, minibuses and other specialist vehicles could also be built on the adaptable platform. Early versions commonly used a 2.5-litre diesel engine and manual transmission.
The FIAT Daily occupied the heavier-duty end of the light commercial market, serving operators that needed more carrying capacity and flexibility than a conventional delivery van. It became known for its strong chassis, practical load space, durability and suitability for professional conversions. These qualities established the basic character that remained central to later Daily generations.
