About FIAT Campagnola
The FIAT Campagnola is a compact, heavy-duty off-road vehicle developed for military, public-service and civilian use. Produced from 1951 to 1987, it occupied a specialised position in FIAT’s range, apart from the brand’s better-known passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Its purpose was practical mobility over rough terrain rather than everyday comfort or style.
The original Campagnola used a conventional separate chassis and selectable four-wheel drive. Civilian petrol and diesel models were joined by military AR versions, including the AR51, AR55 and AR59. Its adaptable platform also supported hard-top, ambulance, recovery, snow-clearing and other specialist conversions. The vehicle became widely associated with the Italian armed forces, police, fire services and public utilities.
A substantially redesigned model arrived in 1974 as the Nuova Campagnola, also known by the 1107 designation. It introduced a more modern structure and independent suspension while retaining genuine off-road capability. Military derivatives were marketed under the AR76 designation, and petrol and diesel choices remained available during the second generation.
Known for its functional design, durability and versatility, the Campagnola was FIAT’s dedicated utility 4x4 for demanding professional and recreational roles. Today, it is recognised as one of the brand’s most distinctive historic off-road models.
