About FIAT 500
The FIAT 500 is a compact city car and one of the Italian brand’s most recognisable models. The original Nuova 500 appeared in 1957 as simple, economical transport for post-war Europe. Its small dimensions, rounded body and practical engineering made it closely associated with Italian mass mobility and urban life.
FIAT revived the name in 2007 with a front-engined, front-wheel-drive three-door hatchback inspired by the original’s styling. A fabric-roof 500C cabriolet followed, alongside numerous trim levels and special editions. This generation was produced in Poland and, for selected markets, Mexico. It became a style-focused alternative in the A-segment, while retaining the manoeuvrability and efficient use of space expected from a city car.
A new generation arrived in 2020 as the battery-electric 500e. The current family also includes the mild-hybrid 500 Hybrid, produced at FIAT’s Mirafiori plant in Turin. Depending on market, body choices include hatchback, cabriolet and 3+1, which adds a small rear-hinged passenger-side door. Across its versions, the 500 is known for compact proportions, distinctive retro-influenced design, extensive personalisation and suitability for crowded urban roads. It serves as FIAT’s design-led small car and an important link between the brand’s heritage and its electrified range.
