About FIAT 133

The FIAT 133 is a compact two-door, four-seat saloon introduced in 1974. Although sold with FIAT badges in several export markets, it was developed and initially produced by SEAT in Spain. It combined the platform and rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout of the SEAT 850 with a more angular body reflecting newer small-car styling.

Within FIAT’s range, the 133 occupied an affordable position around the 126 and below the larger, front-wheel-drive 127. Its traditional layout was less modern than the 127’s, but compact dimensions, straightforward engineering and familiar components made it suitable for economical urban transport.

Most Spanish-built examples used an 843 cc four-cylinder petrol engine with a four-speed manual gearbox. Variations included standard, Especial and better-equipped Lujo versions, while higher-output models added features such as front disc brakes. Specifications differed by market and production period.

Production also took place in Argentina from 1977 to 1982, generally with a 903 cc engine. Argentina received sportier IAVA-developed derivatives, including the 133 T. The model was also assembled in Egypt as the Nasr 133.

The 133 is chiefly known as one of the last small FIAT-associated cars with an all-rear layout. It bridged the older 600 and 850 formula and a newer generation of front-engined city cars, prioritising simplicity and low-cost mobility over performance or refinement.
