About FIAT 132
The FIAT 132 is a four-door, rear-wheel-drive saloon introduced in 1972 as the successor to the FIAT 125. It occupied the upper part of FIAT’s passenger-car range, offering more space, comfort and equipment than the brand’s smaller family models. After production of the larger FIAT 130 ended, the 132 also served as FIAT’s flagship saloon.
Its conventional front-engine layout was paired with four-cylinder engines. Early versions mainly used 1.6- and 1.8-litre twin-cam petrol units, while later updates added 2.0-litre petrol engines, fuel injection and diesel options in selected markets. Manual gearboxes were common, although automatic transmission was available on some versions.
FIAT revised the 132 several times during the 1970s, with changes to the body trim, cabin, suspension and equipment. Versions included standard and more highly equipped Special or GLS models, followed by later 2000 and diesel variants. In 1981, a substantially updated development of the same platform became the FIAT Argenta.
The 132 was primarily produced in Italy, with related licensed or locally assembled versions offered in countries including Spain and Poland. It is known for its restrained styling, spacious interior, comfortable long-distance character and traditional mechanical layout, placing it between mainstream family transport and executive saloons of its period.
