About Ferrari Testarossa
Introduced in 1984, the Ferrari Testarossa is a two-seat, mid-engined grand tourer that replaced the Berlinetta Boxer as Ferrari’s flagship road car. It combined high-speed touring ability with the performance and dramatic appearance expected of the brand’s leading 12-cylinder model.
The Testarossa is best known for its wide body, prominent side strakes and rear-mounted radiators, features that helped define its distinctive Pininfarina-designed shape. Power came from a rear-mid-mounted, horizontally opposed 12-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Its cabin and luggage capacity also made it more suitable for long-distance use than many more focused sports cars.
The original Testarossa was produced from 1984 to 1991. Ferrari then developed the same model line into the 512 TR, introduced in 1991 with revised styling, chassis, engine installation and performance. The final evolution was the F512 M, launched in 1994 with further mechanical updates and a more extensively altered exterior, including exposed headlights.
Positioned above Ferrari’s smaller V8 models, the Testarossa family served as the company’s range-topping production car. It remains associated with 1980s design, strong 12-cylinder performance and a balance of exotic-car character and grand-touring usability.
