About Ferrari F50
The Ferrari F50 is a limited-production, two-seat, mid-engined supercar introduced at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show. It was created to mark Ferrari’s 50th anniversary, celebrated two years ahead of the company’s official 1947 founding date. Production ran from 1995 to 1997 and was limited to 349 road cars.
The F50 was offered in a single generation without a conventional trim structure. Its body incorporated a removable hardtop, allowing it to function as either a berlinetta or an open targa-style car. Power came from a naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V12 derived from Ferrari’s 1990 Formula One engine. It produced 520 hp and drove the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
A carbon-fibre monocoque formed the basis of the car, while the engine served as a stressed structural component. Pushrod suspension, extensive aerodynamics and the absence of power steering and anti-lock brakes reflected its focus on direct driver involvement. Ferrari also developed the more powerful F50 GT for competition, although it was not a regular road-going version.
Within Ferrari’s range, the F50 followed the 288 GTO and F40 and preceded the Enzo in the brand’s limited-series flagship lineage. It is especially known for combining Formula One-influenced engineering, open-air capability, a high-revving V12 and an unusually mechanical driving character.
