About Ferrari 512 TR

The Ferrari 512 TR is a two-seat, mid-engined berlinetta introduced for 1992 as the successor to the Testarossa. It retained the earlier car’s dramatic Pininfarina profile, broad rear bodywork, side strakes and pop-up headlamps, but added cleaner detailing, improved aerodynamics and a more ergonomic cabin. Production continued until 1994, when the more extensively revised F512 M took its place.

Within the wider Testarossa family, the 512 TR represents the second of three main iterations: the original Testarossa, the 512 TR and the F512 M. It was offered as a fixed-roof, rear-wheel-drive road car with a five-speed manual gearbox. Its 4.9-litre, 12-cylinder boxer engine produced 428 hp in European specification and 421 hp in US-market form. Ferrari mounted the revised engine and transmission lower in the chassis, helping to reduce the centre of gravity and improve traction, balance and steering response.

The 512 TR occupied the flagship end of Ferrari’s early-1990s road-car range, above the smaller V8 models and with a more overtly sporting character than the marque’s front-engined grand tourers. It is known for combining the unmistakable Testarossa design with stronger performance, better road manners and greater everyday usability. As the final version of the family to retain pop-up headlights and the original-style rear grille, it marks a clear transition between the 1980s Testarossa and the later F512 M.
