About Ferrari 488
The Ferrari 488 is a two-seat, mid-engined sports car introduced in 2015 as the successor to the 458 Italia. It marked a major change in Ferrari’s core V8 range by replacing the 458’s naturally aspirated engine with a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The single-generation 488 family began with the 488 GTB coupé, followed by the 488 Spider with a retractable hardtop. Both produced 670 cv and concluded their lifecycle in 2019. The track-focused 488 Pista and open-top Pista Spider arrived in 2018, adding lower weight, revised aerodynamics and a 720 cv version of the V8. Competition derivatives included the 488 Challenge, GT3 and GTE.
Positioned below Ferrari’s contemporary V12 flagships, the 488 served as the brand’s main mid-engined production supercar before the F8 Tributo replaced it. It is known for combining very high performance with sophisticated electronic chassis controls, active aerodynamics and relatively accessible handling for its class. Its turbocharged engine, strong racing connection and broad choice of coupé, convertible and special-series versions define its place in Ferrari’s modern lineup.
