About Ferrari 328
The Ferrari 328 is a two-seat, rear-mid-engined sports car produced from 1985 to 1989. Introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, it replaced the 308 GTB/GTS and represented the final development of Ferrari’s road-car series with a naturally aspirated, transversely mounted V8. Its name refers to the engine’s 3.2-litre capacity and eight cylinders. The substantially redesigned 348 succeeded it in 1989.
The range comprised the fixed-roof 328 GTB berlinetta and the 328 GTS, which used a removable roof panel rather than a full convertible top. Both featured rear-wheel drive and a V8 with four valves per cylinder. The open-roof GTS was produced in considerably greater numbers, while the GTB provided a traditional closed-coupé configuration.
The 328 was a single-generation model and an extensive evolution of the 308 rather than an entirely new design. Pininfarina retained the familiar low, wedge-shaped profile but introduced smoother nose and tail treatments, body-coloured bumpers and a more ergonomic cabin. Within Ferrari’s late-1980s range, it served as the compact two-seat V8 sports car, distinct from the four-seat Mondial and larger 12-cylinder models. It is known for its balanced proportions, compact dimensions and direct mechanical character.
