About Ducati ST3

The Ducati ST3 is a sport-touring motorcycle produced from 2004 to 2007. It replaced the ST2 within Ducati’s ST family and was built for riders seeking the character and handling of a Ducati with greater comfort and practicality for longer journeys. Its full fairing, relatively upright riding position, two-person seat and luggage capability distinguished it from the brand’s more focused superbikes.

The model uses a 992 cc, liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin with electronic fuel injection and Ducati’s desmodromic valve system. Its unusual DesmoTre cylinder heads have three valves per cylinder—two intake and one exhaust—providing a balance between the simpler two-valve ST2 engine and the higher-performance four-valve unit used in the ST4s. The six-speed ST3 became known for accessible power delivery, stable handling and a useful combination of sporting ability and touring comfort.

The range remained within a single generation. The standard ST3 was joined for 2006 by the ST3s ABS, which added upgraded suspension, an aluminium swingarm and anti-lock braking. This version represented the most fully equipped ST3 variation and became the flagship of Ducati’s SportTouring range after the ST4s was withdrawn. Production ended after 2007 as Ducati discontinued the ST series, leaving the ST3 as the final development of the company’s original dedicated sport-tourer line.
