About Ducati ST2

The Ducati ST2 is a sport-touring motorcycle produced from 1997 to 2003. It introduced Ducati’s ST family and marked the brand’s return to a dedicated road-touring format after the 907 i.e. Paso. The model combined long-distance practicality with the engine character and chassis design associated with Ducati’s sporting motorcycles.

Power comes from a 944 cc, liquid-cooled, two-valve desmodromic L-twin paired with a six-speed transmission. The ST2 also uses a tubular steel trellis frame, full bodywork and a conventional chain final drive. Its fairing, upright riding position, dual seat and centre stand made it better suited to regular touring and two-person travel than Ducati’s contemporary superbikes. Matching side cases were offered for added luggage capacity.

The ST2 remained a single generation throughout production, with changes largely limited to model-year refinements, finishes and market-specific equipment rather than distinct performance versions. It later formed the entry point to an expanding range that included the more powerful four-valve ST4 and ST4S.

Known for stable road manners, useful low- and mid-range power and a balance between comfort and sporting response, the ST2 occupied a practical niche in Ducati’s lineup. It was replaced by the three-valve ST3 for the 2004 model year.
