About Ducati Paso
The Ducati Paso is a fully faired road-going sports motorcycle introduced in 1986. Designed by Massimo Tamburini, it marked a major change from Ducati’s more traditional, mechanically exposed models. Its smooth, enclosed bodywork made it a symbol of 1980s motorcycle design, while its prominent red finish helped establish red as Ducati’s signature colour. The name honours Italian racer Renzo Pasolini.
The original 750 Paso used an air-cooled, two-valve 748 cc L-twin engine and 16-inch wheels. It was followed by the Paso 906, which brought a larger 904 cc engine, liquid cooling and a six-speed gearbox. The final development was the 907 i.e., which dropped the Paso name from its official designation but retained the same design lineage. It added electronic fuel injection, 17-inch wheels and updated brakes.
Produced from the mid-1980s into the early 1990s, the Paso family occupied a distinctive position between Ducati’s race-influenced sports machines and more practical road motorcycles. It is known primarily for Tamburini’s integrated styling, aerodynamic bodywork and its use of Ducati’s characteristic desmodromic L-twin engines. Although later Ducati models took a different visual direction, the Paso remains notable for bringing bold industrial design and greater road-focused refinement to the brand’s sports range.
