About Ducati MH900e
The Ducati MH900e, also known as the MH900 Evoluzione, is a limited-production retro sport motorcycle inspired by Mike Hailwood’s 1978 Isle of Man TT victory on a Ducati. Styled by Pierre Terblanche and first shown as a concept in 1998, it combined historic racing references with contemporary engineering. It was also an early example of a factory motorcycle sold exclusively online.
Ducati produced 2,000 numbered examples, with production covering the 2001 and 2002 model years. The MH900e remained a single-generation, single-version special series. Differences between individual markets mainly concerned regulatory equipment rather than separate trims or major mechanical variants.
Its mechanical package centred on a 904 cc air- and oil-cooled, two-valve desmodromic L-twin, fuel injection, a six-speed gearbox and a steel trellis frame. Distinctive features include the compact fairing, elongated fuel tank, solo tail, high-mounted twin exhausts and exposed single-sided tubular swingarm.
Within Ducati’s range, the MH900e sat apart from the regular Supersport and Superbike families as a design-led, collector-focused model. It is known for its rarity, unconventional proportions and blend of classic Ducati racing cues with turn-of-the-century styling. It also foreshadowed ideas later developed in Ducati’s SportClassic range.
