About Ducati Desmosedici RR
The Ducati Desmosedici RR is a limited-production, road-legal sports motorcycle developed as a close replica of Ducati’s Desmosedici MotoGP racer. Presented in 2006 and produced during 2007–2008, it was based closely on the Desmosedici GP6 in its styling, aerodynamics and engineering concept. Production was limited to 1,500 numbered motorcycles.
Unlike Ducati’s regular superbikes of the period, the Desmosedici RR used a 989 cc desmodromic V4 engine rather than the brand’s established road-going V-twin layout. Its specification included a hybrid tubular-steel trellis frame, carbon-fibre bodywork, adjustable Öhlins suspension and forged magnesium wheels. With the supplied racing exhaust fitted, Ducati quoted 200 hp.
The model had a single generation and no conventional trim hierarchy. Factory variations mainly concerned appearance: the standard Rosso GP finish featured a white number panel on the tail, while the Team Version added a broad white stripe inspired by the race bike.
Positioned above the contemporary 1098 family, the Desmosedici RR served as a technological flagship rather than a mainstream superbike. It is known for its direct MotoGP connection, specialised construction, high-revving engine and demanding, track-focused character. Its rarity and unusual place in Ducati’s road-bike range have also made it a notable collector model.
