About Ducati 900 S2
The Ducati 900 S2 is an Italian sport motorcycle introduced in 1982 as the road-oriented successor to the 900 Super Sport. It belongs to the final generation of Ducati’s classic bevel-drive V-twins, before the company shifted its main development towards belt-driven Pantah-based engines.
Its 864 cc, air-cooled 90-degree V-twin uses desmodromic valve operation and is paired with a five-speed transmission and chain final drive. The S2 combined traditional Ducati engineering with more practical equipment than the earlier 900 SS, including electric starting, a dual seat and a protective half-fairing. Brembo disc brakes, cast-alloy wheels and twin rear shock absorbers reflected the period’s established Italian sports-bike layout.
The 900 S2 was produced in small numbers during the early 1980s, with colour and trim changes across model years rather than separate generations. It was followed by the closely related 1000 S2, which used a larger 973 cc engine and several mechanical updates.
Within Ducati’s range, the 900 S2 sat between the uncompromising 900 SS and the brand’s more touring-focused models. It is chiefly known for its bevel-driven desmodromic engine, slim sporting proportions and status as one of the last road-going Ducatis built around the company’s original large-capacity V-twin architecture.
