About Ducati 900 Replica
The Ducati 900 Replica is a fully faired sport motorcycle created after Mike Hailwood’s celebrated victory at the 1978 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. Introduced in 1979, it translated the appearance and racing association of Hailwood’s NCR-prepared competition machine into a road-going model.
Its mechanical basis came from the 900 Super Sport, placing it near the top of Ducati’s sporting range. The 864 cc air-cooled L-twin used desmodromic valve operation and bevel-gear camshaft drive, with 40 mm Dell’Orto carburettors and, on early versions, Conti exhausts. The full fairing and red, green and white graphics were its most recognisable features.
Production continued through 1984, with the motorcycle commonly known as the Mike Hailwood Replica or MHR. Early and later series differed in details such as fairing construction, side panels, exhaust equipment, frame design and starting system; late examples gained electric starting. These changes refined usability while retaining the model’s traditional Ducati engine layout and race-replica character.
The 900 Replica is known for its direct link to Ducati competition history, distinctive bodywork, focused riding position and classic bevel-drive engineering. It occupies an important position among Ducati’s early road-legal race replicas and the final generation of its large bevel-drive sport motorcycles.
