About Ducati 848
The Ducati 848 is a fully faired sport motorcycle introduced in late 2007 for the 2008 model year. It replaced the 749 and remained in Ducati’s Superbike range through 2013, when the 899 Panigale became its successor. Positioned below the larger 1098 and later 1198, it offered Ducati superbike design and performance in a lighter, less powerful package.
Its defining features include an 849 cc liquid-cooled, desmodromic 90-degree L-twin engine, a six-speed transmission, a steel trellis frame and track-focused suspension and brakes. Styling closely followed the 1098 family, with compact twin headlights, under-seat exhausts and a single-sided swingarm. The model is known for precise handling, strong mid-range performance and a riding position intended primarily for fast road and circuit use.
The range had two main phases: the original 848 and the updated 848 EVO, which brought engine and braking revisions. Variations included the lower-priced Dark, the limited Nicky Hayden Edition for the US market, and the higher-spec EVO Corse Special Edition with upgraded suspension, brakes and electronic rider aids. The 848 is generally regarded as Ducati’s middleweight superbike of its era, combining the character of the brand’s larger V-twin machines with lower weight and more accessible performance.
