About Dodge Viper
The Dodge Viper is a low-volume, two-seat American sports car developed as a flagship performance model. Introduced for the 1992 model year, it combined a front-mounted V10 engine, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Its long bonnet, wide body and minimal driver assistance established a distinctive, uncompromising character.
Across five generations, the Viper evolved from the original RT/10 roadster into a wider range that included the GTS coupe, later SRT-10 roadster and coupe, and the final-generation SRT and Dodge Viper. Production paused after the 2010 model year and resumed for 2013 before ending in 2017.
Major variations included the track-focused ACR, GTS-R commemorative editions and several limited-production models. Although power, chassis technology, cabin quality and electronic aids improved over time, the core formula remained centred on a naturally aspirated V10, rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox.
Built in Detroit in relatively small numbers, the Viper occupied a halo position above Dodge’s mainstream performance cars. It offered an American alternative to established European sports cars and the Chevrolet Corvette, with greater emphasis on raw performance than everyday comfort.
The Viper is known for dramatic styling, high torque, demanding handling and strong track capability. Its rarity, motorsport links and direct driving experience have also made well-preserved examples increasingly collectible.
