About Dodge Ram Van
The Dodge Ram Van was a full-size, rear-wheel-drive van sold for the 1971–2003 model years. Originally known as the Dodge B-series, it replaced the compact, forward-control A100 and became Dodge’s principal offering for commercial transport, passenger carrying and specialist conversions.
The range was produced across three generations, although its basic architecture and box-shaped body changed gradually over its long production run. Early cargo and passenger versions used the Tradesman and Sportsman names. From the 1981 model year, these became the Ram Van and Ram Wagon, with series designations including B150, B250 and B350. During the 1990s, the names changed to B1500, B2500 and B3500.
Buyers could choose cargo or windowed passenger bodies, different wheelbases and standard or extended lengths. The extended Maxivan and Maxiwagon versions provided additional load or seating capacity, while heavier-duty models supported commercial work and recreational-vehicle conversions. Six-cylinder and V8 petrol engines were offered at various points.
The Ram Van was known for its practical interior, straightforward mechanical layout and broad range of configurations. Its long production life also resulted in substantial parts commonality across many model years. A major redesign for 1998 improved cabin space, structure and safety equipment. Production ended after the 2003 model year, when Dodge moved to the Sprinter for its large-van role.
