About Dodge Ram

The Dodge Ram is a full-size pickup introduced for the 1981 model year as the successor to Dodge’s D- and W-series trucks. It became the brand’s principal entry in the North American full-size pickup market, covering everyday transport, commercial work, towing and heavy-duty use.

Four main generations appeared under Dodge. The original model retained much of the earlier truck’s basic design, while the 1994 redesign established the Ram’s distinctive big-rig-inspired appearance. Further generations arrived for 2002 and 2009, bringing more modern cabins, chassis development and broader equipment choices. Heavy-duty versions sometimes followed the light-duty redesigns on a different schedule.

The range included 1500 light-duty pickups and 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty models. Depending on year, buyers could choose regular, extended, Quad Cab or crew-cab bodies, different bed lengths, two- or four-wheel drive, and gasoline six-cylinder or V8 engines. Cummins turbo-diesel engines became especially closely associated with heavy-duty Ram trucks, while Hemi V8 options added another recognisable powertrain choice.

The Dodge Ram is known for bold styling, a wide variety of configurations and strong towing and load-carrying capability. After Ram became a separate truck brand, the product line continued without Dodge branding from the 2011 model year.
