About Dodge Nitro
The Dodge Nitro is a five-door SUV introduced for the 2007 model year and built in Toledo, Ohio, until December 2011. Produced in a single generation, it brought Dodge’s bold, squared-off design language to a smaller SUV and was sold in North America and several international markets.
The Nitro shared its core architecture and assembly line with the Jeep Liberty, but featured distinct bodywork and a more road-focused Dodge identity. Its rear-wheel-drive-based layout distinguished it from many front-wheel-drive crossovers of the period. Rear-wheel drive and part-time four-wheel drive were available, depending on model and market.
North American versions mainly used 3.7-litre and 4.0-litre V6 petrol engines. Export ranges also included a 2.8-litre CRD turbo-diesel, with manual and automatic transmissions offered in selected markets. Trim names varied by year and region; notable versions included SE, SXT, SLT and R/T, followed later by Heat, Detonator and Shock.
The Nitro is known for its muscular appearance, upright cabin and practical cargo area. Selected versions featured the sliding Load ’n Go cargo floor to simplify loading. Within Dodge’s range, it served as a smaller, style-led alternative to the larger Durango while retaining a traditional SUV layout.
