About Dodge Neon
The Dodge Neon is a front-wheel-drive compact car introduced for the 1995 model year. It served as Dodge’s entry-level passenger car, replacing older small models such as the Shadow and Colt. Positioned as affordable everyday transport, the Neon became known for its distinctive cab-forward styling, efficient use of interior space and relatively responsive handling.
The original Neon was produced through the 2005 model year in two generations. The first generation was available as a four-door sedan and two-door coupe, while the second generation was sedan-only. Most versions used naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines, with trims ranging from basic commuter models to the sportier R/T and competition-focused ACR. The best-known derivative was the 2003–2005 SRT-4, which combined a turbocharged 2.4-litre engine with extensive performance upgrades.
Closely related Neon models were also sold under the Plymouth and Chrysler brands in various markets. After the original car ended production, the Dodge Caliber took over its place in the North American range. The Neon name later returned in selected markets, including Mexico and the Middle East, on a Dodge-badged version of the Fiat Tipo sedan. This later model was separate from the two US-developed Neon generations.
