About Dodge Mirada
The Dodge Mirada was a mid-size, rear-wheel-drive personal luxury coupe sold for the 1980–1983 model years. Introduced as the successor to the Dodge Magnum, it reflected Chrysler’s move towards smaller, more fuel-conscious vehicles while retaining traditional American coupe proportions. It shared the J-body platform with the second-generation Chrysler Cordoba and the Imperial.
Produced in a single generation, the Mirada was offered only as a two-door coupe. Its styling combined a long bonnet, short rear deck and formal roofline, giving it a mix of sporty and luxury-oriented character. Depending on model year, the range included the standard Mirada, the sport-themed S version and the better-equipped CMX. Cosmetic packages, vinyl roof treatments and varying interior trims provided further distinction.
Power came from Chrysler’s Slant-Six or small-block V8 engines, paired with an automatic transmission. A 5.9-litre V8 was available briefly in 1980, while the 5.2-litre V8 was the more widely offered V8 option.
The Mirada competed with personal luxury coupes such as the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix and Ford Thunderbird. Its four-year production run brought relatively few major changes. Today, it is known for its distinctive early-1980s styling, uncommon status and place among Dodge’s last traditional rear-wheel-drive coupes of the period.
