About Dodge Le Baron

The Dodge Le Baron was a luxury-oriented four-door sedan produced in Brazil from late 1978, as a 1979 model, until 1981. Developed from the Brazilian Dodge Dart, it belonged to Chrysler do Brasil’s established family of locally built V8 cars. It was positioned among the most refined Dodge passenger models in the market, alongside the Magnum coupe and Charger.

Built in a single generation, the Le Baron retained the Dart’s rear-wheel-drive layout and 5.2-litre 318-cubic-inch V8 engine. Transmission choices included a four-speed manual and an optional three-speed automatic. Rather than introducing a separate platform, Dodge distinguished the model through formal styling, additional equipment and a more comfort-focused specification.

Recognisable features included four round headlights, a full vinyl roof and model-specific exterior detailing. Power steering, reclining front seats, tinted glass and a radio-cassette player helped support its upmarket position, while air conditioning and metallic paint were available as options. The spacious cabin, relaxed V8 performance and traditional sedan proportions were central to its character.

The Le Baron represented the premium four-door end of Dodge’s Brazilian range. Its brief production run and market-specific design make it a distinctive variation within the wider Dart family.
