About Dodge Intrepid
The Dodge Intrepid was a full-size, front-wheel-drive four-door sedan sold for the 1993–2004 model years. It entered Dodge’s passenger-car range as a modern replacement for the Dynasty and Monaco, giving the brand a large family sedan with contemporary packaging and styling.
Built on Chrysler’s LH architecture, the Intrepid became closely associated with the company’s “cab-forward” design approach. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and forward-positioned windscreen contributed to a spacious cabin and a distinctive aerodynamic profile. Production centred on Brampton, Ontario. In Canada, the model was marketed as the Chrysler Intrepid.
There were two generations. The first, covering 1993–1997, established the rounded design and offered 3.3- and 3.5-litre V6 engines. A redesigned second generation arrived for 1998 and continued through 2004, bringing updated styling, a revised interior and 2.7-, 3.2- and 3.5-litre V6 options. All versions used front-wheel drive and four-speed automatic transmissions.
Trim names varied by year, but the range included base or SE models, the better-equipped ES, and sport-oriented R/T and SXT versions. Fleet and police variants were also produced. Positioned above smaller Dodge cars such as the Neon and Stratus, the Intrepid is chiefly known for its roomy accommodation, bold 1990s appearance and more dynamic image than many large American sedans of its period.
