About Dodge Dynasty
The Dodge Dynasty was a midsize four-door sedan sold for the 1988–1993 model years. Developed during Chrysler’s transition to front-wheel-drive passenger cars, it succeeded the Dodge 600 and occupied the space between the smaller Spirit and the larger Monaco in Dodge’s North American car range. The Dynasty was replaced by the more aerodynamic Intrepid after 1993.
Built in Belvidere, Illinois, the Dynasty shared its C-body architecture with contemporary Chrysler sedans. It was produced as a single generation and only as a conventional sedan. In Canada and Mexico, closely related versions were marketed under the Chrysler Dynasty name.
The range included base and better-equipped LE trims, with a Premium version offered for 1988 and a Brougham appearance package available near the end of production. Engine choices included a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, a Mitsubishi-built 3.0-litre V6 and, from 1990, Chrysler’s 3.3-litre V6. All were paired with automatic transmissions.
The Dynasty is best known for its upright, conservative styling, spacious passenger compartment and comfort-oriented character. Its broad seating, compliant ride and available convenience features suited family, business and fleet use. Rather than emphasising performance or sporty handling, it represented Dodge’s traditional midsize-sedan offering at the close of the K-car era.
