About Dodge Dart
The Dodge Dart is a passenger-car nameplate with two distinct production periods. Introduced in 1960, it began as a lower-priced full-size Dodge, became a mid-size model for 1962 and then evolved into a compact car from 1963 to 1976. Earlier Darts were offered in several body styles and ranged from practical family cars to performance-oriented versions such as the GT, GTS, Swinger 340, Demon 340 and Dart Sport.
The latest and final generation arrived for the 2013 model year and remained in production through 2016. It was a front-wheel-drive, four-door compact sedan built in Belvidere, Illinois. Developed on a Fiat-derived architecture related to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform, it marked Dodge’s return to the US compact-sedan class and served as the brand’s entry-level car below its larger sedans.
This generation used four-cylinder engines, including 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre Tigershark units and a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo. Manual, conventional automatic and dual-clutch transmissions were available, depending on the version. The range included SE, SXT, fuel-focused Aero, sportier GT and better-equipped Limited models, followed by a simplified final-year selection. It is known for distinctive Dodge styling, a wide choice of configurations and available features such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen and digital instrument display. Production ended in 2016, leaving Dodge without a compact sedan.
