About Dodge Challenger
The Dodge Challenger is a two-door coupe closely associated with American muscle-car design and performance. Introduced for the 1970 model year, it joined Dodge’s range during the peak of the original muscle-car era. Its long bonnet, short rear deck and broad stance became defining features of the nameplate.
The Challenger appeared in three distinct production eras: 1970–1974, 1978–1983 and 2008–2023. The second-generation model was a smaller, Mitsubishi-based coupe shaped by changing fuel economy and emissions requirements. The third generation returned to the original formula with rear-wheel drive, retro-inspired styling and a five-seat cabin. It was assembled in Brampton, Canada, and production ended in December 2023.
Modern versions ranged from V6-powered SXT and GT models, including all-wheel-drive variants, to V8-powered R/T and R/T Scat Pack trims. Higher-performance SRT models included the Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye, Super Stock and limited-production Demon versions. Widebody, Shaker, T/A and drag-focused packages further expanded the range.
Within the Dodge lineup, the Challenger served as the brand’s two-door performance flagship. It was known for strong straight-line performance, a wide choice of engines and configurations, distinctive heritage styling and greater passenger and luggage space than many traditional sports coupes.
