About Dodge Caravan

The Dodge Caravan is a minivan introduced for the 1984 model year. Developed as part of Chrysler’s pioneering front-wheel-drive minivan programme, it combined the passenger space of a van with dimensions and driving characteristics closer to a family car. It became one of Dodge’s most recognisable family vehicles and remained in production through the 2020 model year.

Across five generations, the Caravan was offered in standard- and extended-length forms. The longer Grand Caravan joined the range for 1987 and eventually became the sole Dodge version after the shorter model was phased out. Depending on model year and market, variations included passenger and cargo configurations, several trim levels, and selected all-wheel-drive models.

The Caravan was positioned as a practical, value-oriented choice within the brand’s lineup. It served families, commercial users, rental fleets and mobility-conversion customers. Typical qualities included sliding side doors, three-row seating, a large and adaptable cabin, and straightforward road manners. Later Grand Caravan models were particularly associated with available Stow ’n Go seating, which allowed seats to fold into the floor to create useful cargo space.

Production ended in 2020, closing a long-running Dodge nameplate closely linked with the growth of the modern minivan segment.
