About Dodge AS 250
The Dodge AS 250 is a Turkish-built light commercial truck developed by Chrysler Sanayi, the company later renamed Askam. It is unrelated to the North American Dodge D250 pickup. The AS 250 targeted operators needing greater load capacity and durability than a conventional pickup while remaining smaller than a medium-duty lorry. Its “250” designation indicated an approximate 2.5-tonne payload class.
Positioned below the larger AS 700 and AS 950 trucks, the AS 250 occupied the lighter end of the manufacturer’s commercial range. It was offered with Dodge badging and also appeared under the DeSoto and Fargo names, reflecting Chrysler’s Turkish manufacturing arrangements. Instead of passing through clearly separated generations, the model evolved through gradual changes to its grille, cab, engines and running gear.
Variations included rear-wheel-drive cargo trucks, chassis-cab models for specialised bodies and AS 250D versions. The AS 250 WD added four-wheel drive, with single- and double-cab configurations serving rural businesses, construction operators, public agencies and other users requiring off-road ability. Diesel engines and transmissions differed by year and specification.
The AS 250 is known for its sturdy chassis, straightforward mechanical design and adaptable body options. Within the Dodge range, it was a regional working vehicle rather than a global model and is most closely associated with the Turkish commercial market.
