About Dodge 600
The Dodge 600 was a mid-size, front-wheel-drive car sold for the 1983–1988 model years. Introduced as Dodge moved towards more space-efficient passenger cars, it replaced the Dodge 400 and occupied an upper-middle position in the range. It sat above the compact Aries and, later, alongside the sportier Lancer, while offering a smaller and more modern alternative to the rear-wheel-drive Diplomat.
Produced in a single generation, the 600 was initially offered as a four-door sedan. Two-door coupe and convertible versions joined the range for 1984 and remained available through 1986. The sedan used Chrysler’s extended E-body architecture, while the coupe and convertible were based on the shorter K-body platform. All versions used four-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive.
Trim and equipment varied by year. Base, ES and SE versions covered practical and better-equipped roles, while the ES Turbo added stronger performance and sport-oriented suspension tuning. Engine choices included Chrysler 2.2- and 2.5-litre units, a Mitsubishi-built 2.6-litre engine and a turbocharged 2.2-litre option.
The 600 is best known for combining traditional American comfort and formal styling with compact Chrysler engineering. Its unusual mix of sedan, coupe and convertible body styles gave it a broader identity than many contemporary mid-size Dodge models.
