About Dodge 300 Series

The Dodge 300 Series was a European commercial-vehicle range rather than a passenger car or a typical North American Dodge pickup. It was positioned in the medium- and heavy-duty truck market, serving fleet, construction and long-distance haulage operators.

The original 300 was produced by Dodge’s British operation at Kew from 1957 to 1965. It used a forward-control, cab-over layout that placed the cab above the engine, improving load space and manoeuvrability. Its cab design was shared with contemporary Leyland and Albion trucks and became known as the LAD cab. The range included rigid trucks, tractor units and a four-wheel-drive military version. Perkins diesel engines powered many examples.

This British-built generation was succeeded by the Dodge 500. The 300 Series name returned in the 1970s for a separate range of heavier trucks manufactured in Spain by Chrysler’s former Barreiros operation. These models included tractor units and multi-axle rigid chassis with four, six or eight wheels. Production and sales continued into the early 1980s.

Across its different forms, the 300 Series is known for practical cab-over packaging, diesel power and a wide choice of chassis configurations. It represented Dodge’s European heavy commercial activities and occupied a more specialised position than the brand’s lighter vans and pickups.
