About Dodge 2000 GTX
The Dodge 2000 GTX was a four-door, mid-size sedan sold exclusively in Canada for the 1989 and 1990 model years. Despite its Dodge badge, it was a rebadged version of the sixth-generation Mitsubishi Galant. The arrangement gave Chrysler Canada a modern Japanese-designed sedan at a time when Mitsubishi did not have an established Canadian retail network.
Only one Dodge-branded generation was produced. After 1990, the same basic model continued in Canada as the Eagle 2000 GTX. It was unrelated to the larger, V8-powered Plymouth GTX muscle car, although its name gave the sedan a sportier identity within Dodge’s range.
Canadian versions used 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines. Buyers could choose between a 103-horsepower single-cam engine and a 135-horsepower twin-cam unit, depending on model year and specification. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered, along with front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive on selected versions. Better-equipped cars could also feature electronically controlled suspension.
The 2000 GTX competed with established family sedans such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. It was known for balanced handling, a comfortable ride, practical four-door packaging and relatively advanced drivetrain technology. Its short Dodge production run and Canada-only availability have made surviving examples uncommon.
