About Daewoo Winstorm
The Daewoo Winstorm is a mid-size crossover SUV introduced in South Korea in July 2006. It was GM Daewoo’s first SUV and expanded a range previously centred mainly on passenger cars and MPVs. Developed in South Korea as part of a global General Motors programme, the same basic vehicle was sold in many export markets as the Chevrolet Captiva or Holden Captiva.
The Winstorm used a five-door body and combined car-like road manners with the space and raised driving position expected of an SUV. Depending on specification, it was available with five or seven seats and front-wheel or electronically controlled all-wheel drive. Diesel engines formed an important part of the range, while equipment and trim levels varied by model year.
Only one main generation was sold under the Winstorm name, although it received regular equipment and styling updates. The related Winstorm MaXX joined the Korean range in 2008 as a more compact, five-seat, premium-positioned variation. It was closely related to the Opel Antara and featured standard all-wheel drive in the Korean market.
The Winstorm is chiefly known for its flexible seating, practical cargo area and international engineering background. It occupied an important position as GM Daewoo’s family SUV until April 2011, when the updated model adopted the Chevrolet Captiva name as GM Korea moved away from the Daewoo brand.
