About Daewoo Vanette

The Daewoo Vanette was a compact light commercial vehicle produced for South Korea from 1987 to 1992. It was built under a technical collaboration with Nissan and was based on the second-generation Nissan Vanette, known by its C22 model code. The Daewoo version therefore represented one licensed generation rather than a long-running series developed independently by the Korean manufacturer.

The range included a single-cab one-tonne truck, enclosed cargo vans and passenger-oriented Coach versions. Depending on configuration, the van and Coach models offered different body lengths and seating arrangements, including versions intended for group transport. Its forward-control, box-shaped layout placed the driver close to the front axle and made efficient use of the vehicle’s compact exterior dimensions.

Within Daewoo’s line-up, the Vanette filled the small commercial vehicle and minibus role, complementing the company’s passenger cars and larger trucks. Rear-wheel drive, diesel power and a straightforward work-focused design suited delivery, small-business and passenger duties. Some details, including a car-like dashboard and exterior mirrors, gave it a more modern appearance than many basic trucks of its period.

The model had a relatively short production life and achieved limited market success. It ended without a direct successor in 1992, making surviving examples uncommon today.
