About Daewoo Statesman

The Daewoo Statesman was a full-size four-door luxury sedan sold in South Korea from 2005 to 2006. It served as GM Daewoo’s flagship passenger car, positioned above the brand’s mainstream compact and mid-size models. Although it carried Daewoo badges, the Statesman was developed and manufactured in Australia by Holden.

The car was based on the long-wheelbase WL-series Holden Statesman. It appeared as a single, short-lived generation in the Daewoo range, with no estate, coupe or hatchback derivatives. Its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout followed the traditional format of a large executive sedan and distinguished it from most other Daewoo vehicles of the period.

The principal versions used 2.8-litre and 3.6-litre Alloytec V6 petrol engines, both paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment differed by version, but the range focused on ride comfort, interior space and generous rear-seat accommodation. A 2,940 mm wheelbase and body length of almost 5.2 metres placed it firmly in the large-car class.

The Statesman is mainly known as an Australian-built flagship adapted for Korean buyers. Its restrained styling, spacious cabin and comfort-oriented character suited executive and chauffeur-driven use. Its brief market presence also makes it one of the less common passenger cars sold under the Daewoo name.
