About Daewoo Prince
The Daewoo Prince was a four-door, rear-wheel-drive saloon produced in South Korea from 1991. It replaced the Daewoo Royale and occupied the brand’s traditional mid-size executive position. Although its underlying GM V platform was related to the Opel Rekord E, the Prince used bodywork developed by Daewoo and had a distinct, formal appearance.
The model remained within one main generation, receiving updates during its production run. A substantial 1996 revision, commonly known as the New Prince, brought refreshed exterior details and a redesigned dashboard. Most versions used 1.8- or 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, with manual and automatic transmissions available. LPG-powered models were also offered, particularly for taxi use.
More luxurious variations included the Super Salon and Brougham, which featured more imposing front-end styling, additional equipment and a stronger emphasis on rear-seat comfort. These derivatives placed the Prince family above Daewoo’s regular passenger cars and gave the company a presence in the executive-saloon market.
The standard Prince ended production in 1997, while some taxi versions continued until 1999. It was succeeded in its core role by the front-wheel-drive Leganza, while the larger Chairman took over the premium position. The Prince is chiefly known for its conservative styling, spacious saloon format and old-style rear-wheel-drive layout.
