About Daewoo Nubira
The Daewoo Nubira is a compact family car introduced in 1997 as part of Daewoo’s new generation of independently developed models. It occupied the middle of the passenger-car range, above the smaller Lanos and below the larger Leganza, and competed mainly as an affordable alternative to established European, Japanese and North American compact cars.
The original J100 series was offered as a four-door saloon, five-door hatchback and five-door estate, although availability differed by market. Its conventional front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and four-cylinder petrol engines prioritised everyday usability. The model became known for practical body choices, useful interior space and relatively generous equipment for its price class.
A substantially revised J150 version arrived around 1999–2000 with updated styling and improvements to refinement, suspension and noise control. It is often described as the Nubira II, although it remained closely related to the first model. Production in South Korea ended in 2002, while assembly continued longer in some overseas markets.
The later J200-based saloon and estate were also marketed as the Nubira in parts of Europe. These versions belonged to the Lacetti family and later appeared under Chevrolet and other regional brands, reflecting Daewoo’s integration into General Motors.
