About Daewoo Nexia
The Daewoo Nexia is a compact passenger car introduced in 1994. Developed from the Daewoo LeMans and closely related to the Opel Kadett E, it combined established European engineering with Daewoo styling and equipment. Depending on the market, it was sold as a four-door saloon or a three- or five-door hatchback. Cielo was simply a regional name for the same model family, not a separate Daewoo design.
The Nexia occupied the affordable compact position in Daewoo’s range. Early versions were produced in South Korea and exported widely, while assembly also took place in several other countries. Production became especially important in Uzbekistan, where the model was manufactured from 1996 and remained available long after it had left most other markets.
Although sometimes divided into two generations, the Nexia retained the same basic platform throughout its life. The original N100 series received various updates, followed in 2008 by the substantially restyled N150, commonly called Nexia II. Later production concentrated on the saloon. The model is known for its straightforward mechanical layout, practical cabin, accessible running costs and suitability for markets where simple, familiar transport was valued. In Daewoo’s wider line-up, it was eventually superseded by newer compact and small-car designs such as the Lanos and Nubira.
