About Daewoo Matiz
The Daewoo Matiz is a five-door city car introduced in 1998 as the entry-level model in Daewoo’s passenger-car range. Its compact footprint and tall body were designed for easy urban use while providing practical cabin space. Italdesign developed the original Matiz from its Lucciola concept, resulting in the model’s distinctive rounded shape and large circular headlamps.
The first M100 series was followed by the restyled M150, often marketed as the Matiz II. It retained the basic design and platform but received revised styling, interior details and equipment. Depending on market and year, versions were offered mainly with a 0.8-litre three-cylinder or 1.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Five-speed manual gearboxes were common, while automatic transmissions were available in some regions. Trim levels ranged from basic economy models to variants with air conditioning, power accessories and added safety equipment.
The substantially redesigned M200 arrived in 2005, continuing the five-door hatchback format with updated styling, refinement and features. Following changes in Daewoo’s ownership and brand strategy, Matiz models were sold under Chevrolet branding in many countries while retaining the Daewoo name in selected markets. The Matiz became known as an affordable, space-efficient urban car with simple mechanicals, modest operating costs and manoeuvrable dimensions.
