About Daewoo Lanos
The Daewoo Lanos is a small front-wheel-drive passenger car introduced in 1997. It replaced the Nexia in Daewoo’s compact range and was later succeeded by the Kalos. Positioned below larger models such as the Nubira, it was intended as practical, affordable transport for urban and everyday use.
Developed with styling by Italdesign, the Lanos was offered as a four-door saloon and as three- or five-door hatchbacks. Petrol engines varied by market, with common capacities ranging from 1.3 to 1.6 litres. Manual transmissions were widely fitted, while automatic versions were available in selected markets.
The model belongs to one main generation. Early vehicles carry the T100 designation, while the updated T150 version introduced revised styling and other detail changes around 1999–2000. Equipment levels and mechanical specifications differed considerably between countries and production plants.
Daewoo production ran into the early 2000s, but the design remained in manufacture much longer through licensed and local assembly in countries including Poland, Ukraine and Egypt. Related versions were sold under Daewoo, FSO, ZAZ and Chevrolet branding, with names including Lanos, Sens and Chance. The model is chiefly known for its straightforward engineering, compact dimensions, broad international availability and role as an entry-level car in Daewoo’s global line-up.
