About Daewoo Lacetti
The Daewoo Lacetti is a compact passenger car introduced in South Korea in 2002. It replaced the Nubira in Daewoo’s small-family-car range and sat above the Kalos and below larger models such as the Magnus. Developed during Daewoo’s transition into GM Daewoo, it became one of the company’s main global products.
The original J200 generation was offered as a four-door sedan, five-door hatchback and five-door estate or wagon, although availability and names varied by country. Most versions used front-wheel drive and four-cylinder petrol engines, with diesel options added in some markets. The range targeted buyers seeking straightforward, practical transport, offering useful cabin space, a conventional layout and relatively simple mechanicals.
The Lacetti is particularly known for its many export identities. Related versions were sold under Chevrolet, Holden, Suzuki and Buick branding, with names including Lacetti, Nubira, Optra, Viva, Forenza, Reno and Excelle. This broad distribution gave the model a greater international presence than the Daewoo badge alone suggests.
A second generation arrived in South Korea in 2008 as the Lacetti Premiere. This was the local version of GM’s new global compact sedan, marketed elsewhere as the Chevrolet Cruze. The Daewoo brand was phased out in South Korea in 2011, ending the Lacetti’s role as a Daewoo-branded model.
