About Daewoo Labo

The Daewoo Labo is a compact cab-over light commercial pickup introduced in South Korea in 1991. Derived from the Suzuki Carry, it was designed for short-distance deliveries and small-business use. Its two-seat cab, rear-wheel drive and compact footprint made it well suited to narrow streets and restricted parking spaces.

Rather than progressing through several completely redesigned generations, the Labo retained one basic platform for most of its life. It received styling, engine and regulatory updates, with Korean models eventually using a 0.8-litre three-cylinder LPG engine. Variations included conventional dropside pickups, longer load beds and chassis-style versions intended for specialised bodies. A payload rating of up to 550 kg placed it below full-size one-ton trucks.

The Labo occupied a distinctive position in Daewoo’s range as a low-cost working vehicle rather than a passenger-oriented pickup. It was sold under Daewoo and GM Daewoo, and later without a corporate badge in South Korea. Korean production ended in 2021 after about three decades, while the design continues in Uzbekistan under the Chevrolet Labo name. Its main qualities are simple construction, manoeuvrability, useful load space and modest operating requirements.
