About Daewoo Gentra

The Daewoo Gentra name covered two distinct front-wheel-drive car lines rather than one continuous model family. Introduced by GM Daewoo in 2005, the original was a facelifted Kalos small sedan, closely related to the Chevrolet Aveo sold in other markets. It filled an entry-level subcompact role in South Korea and Vietnam, while the five-door version was called Gentra X. Production of this Korean series ended in 2011.

The name returned in 2013 for a compact sedan built by GM Uzbekistan. This Gentra was based on the first-generation Chevrolet/Daewoo Lacetti and sold mainly through Uz-Daewoo channels in CIS markets. It provided a roomier, conventional four-door alternative to Daewoo’s smaller models. The principal powertrain was a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

In 2015, the Uzbekistan-built car became the Ravon Gentra following a change of export brand. The model was positioned as an affordable mainstream sedan, known mainly for practical packaging and established GM Daewoo engineering rather than novelty or premium features. Equipment varied by trim and market, with versions offering air conditioning, airbags, ABS and heated front seats.
