About Daewoo Elf

The Daewoo Elf was a South Korean light- to medium-duty cab-over truck based on the Isuzu Elf. It entered the local market under Saehan Motors in 1976 and later carried Daewoo branding. Production continued until 1991, placing the model among Daewoo’s early commercial vehicles.

Designed mainly for regional freight and urban distribution, the Elf used a compact forward-control cab to provide useful load space within a relatively short overall length. The range was centred on cargo trucks, with chassis configurations suitable for different commercial and specialised bodies. A 2.5-ton payload model was a key version of the original range.

Rather than following several completely independent Korean generations, the Elf developed through two main local phases derived from Isuzu designs. The original model was followed by the Elf II, announced in December 1986 for the 1987 model year. This revised 2.75-ton truck introduced a more modern wide cab, a 3.3-litre direct-injection diesel engine, a five-speed manual transmission and a tilting cab intended to simplify maintenance.

Within Daewoo’s lineup, the Elf filled the gap between small utility vehicles and heavier cargo trucks. It competed in a market led by established domestic medium-light trucks and was known for its cab-over packaging, diesel power, practical load capacity and work-focused construction. The Elf II was discontinued without a direct replacement.
